THE FAULCONER SCHOLARSHIP
The Faulconer Scholarship is awarded to highly motivated African-American and Hispanic-American students who have a strong desire to advance themselves through higher education. Scholarship recipients receive up to five years of financial support while they work toward a bachelor's degree. With rare exceptions, Faulconer Scholars are required to attend Tyler Junior College for their first two years. Following that, they may transfer to any accredited college or university in Texas to complete their undergraduate degree.
While at Tyler Junior College, students receive $3,000 per year. Financial support is increased to $6,000 per year (for up to three more years) when Faulconer scholars attend upper level colleges or universities. The total value of the Faulconer Scholarship can be as much as $24,000. To maintain a Faulconer Scholarship, students must complete a minimum of 12 hours each semester and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
In addition to financial support, the Faulconer Scholarship Program staff assists Faulconer Scholars in financial planning, college selection, and helps them find appropriate career and community internships.
The Faulconer Graduate Scholarship
A select number of graduate scholarships are awarded to current Faulconer Scholars who are completing undergraduate degrees. Faulconer applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA during their last two years of undergraduate school and must be accepted into a graduate school. The awards are based on the mutual agreement of student and program staff regarding the annual costs of tuition, fees and books and will be renewable annually based on full-time work and a minimum GPA of 3.0. No scholarship will exceed $10,000 per year or be renewable for more than four years.
For students planning to begin graduate school in the fall, applications must be received on or before April 1st. For students planning to begin graduate school in the spring or summer, applications must be on or before September 1st.
